Fox edges out CBS for a Monday win

Baseball is over, but Fox remained ahead on Monday with the return of "House" and "Lie to Me," just barely edging CBS for the night.

Fox averaged a 4.0 adults 18-49 rating and 10 share, according to Nielsen overnights, with CBS second with a 3.9/10.

Fox also won Monday night last week, when it aired game five of the World Series.

"House" was the night's No. 1 show, averaging a 5.1 rating, 0.6 ahead of the No. 2 show, CBS's "The Big Bang Theory."

"House" had a 50 percent advantage over the No. 2 network in the 8 p.m. timeslot, ABC with "Dancing with the Stars," though "Lie" dipped to third in the 9 p.m. slot.

"Stars" was the night's top program among total viewers, averaging 17.6 million from 8 to 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, the CW's much-hyped threesome episode of "Gossip Girl" jumped 17 percent over last week in its target demo, women 18-34, averaging a 2.7 at 9 p.m. It was up more than 300,000 among total viewers, to 2.31 million.

For the night, ABC finished third among 18-49s at 3.2/8, NBC fourth at 1.8/4, Univision fifth at 1.4/4 and CW sixth at 1.2/3.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-three percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

At 8 p.m. Fox was first with the 5.1 for “House,” followed by ABC with the 3.4 for “Stars.” CBS was third with a 3.2 for “How I Met Your Mother” (3.5) and “Accidentally on Purpose” (3.0), NBC fourth with a series-low 2.3 for “Heroes,” Univision fifth with a 1.4 for “El Nombre del Amor” and CW sixth with a 1.2 for “One Tree Hill.”

CBS took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 4.5 for “Two and a Half Men” (4.4) and “Bang” (4.5), while ABC remained second with a 4.5 for more “Stars.” Fox was third with a 3.0 for “Lie to Me,” NBC fourth with a 1.8 for “Trauma,” Univision fifth with a 1.6 for “Sortilegio” and CW sixth with a 1.2 for “Gossip.”

At 10 p.m. CBS led again with a 4.0 for “CSI: Miami,” with ABC second with a 2.5 for “Castle.” Univision and NBC tied for third at 1.2, Univision for “Cristina” and NBC for “The Jay Leno Show.”

ABC was first for the night among households with a 9.7 average overnight rating and a 15 share. CBS was second at 7.5/12, Fox third at 5.9/9, NBC fourth at 3.2/5, Univision fifth at 2.0/3 and CW sixth at 1.6/2.
