Ever-hot chacha
for Fox's 'Dance'

Averages a 3.3 in 18-49s, easily the night's top show

Jun 11, 2009

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” seems to be the show to beat this summer, and that’s good news for the network heading into fall.

“Dance” was last night’s top-rated show, averaging a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights. ABC’s “Wipeout” averaged a 2.9 from 8 to 10 p.m., finishing behind “Dance” in the timeslot though retaining 100 percent of its audience from last week, when it aired for just an hour.

“Dance” has been the top-rated entertainment series for several weeks now, boding well for its move to fall in September. Fox will be airing the competition show two nights per week, swapping it into the usual “American Idol” slots on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Also last night, NBC’s “Tonight Show” slipped back ahead of CBS’s “Late Show” one night after David Letterman beat Conan O’Brien for the first time.

Still, things are close. O’Brien averaged a 3.2 metered-market household rating to Letterman’s 3.1.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-one percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

Fox led the night among 18-49s with a 3.3 average overnight rating and a 10 share. ABC was second at 2.4/7, NBC third at 1.7/5, CBS fourth at 1.5/4, Univision fifth at 1.4/4 and CW sixth at 0.5/1.

At 8 p.m. Fox was first with a 3.0 for the first half of “Dance,” with ABC second with a 2.5 for “Wipeout.” NBC was third with a 1.6 for “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here,” Univision fourth with a 1.3 for “Cuidado con el Angel,” CBS fifth with a 1.0 for repeats of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Gary Unmarried,” and CW sixth with a 0.5 for an “America’s Next Top Model” rerun.

Fox led again at 9 p.m. with a 3.5 for more “Dance,” while ABC remained second with a 3.3 for more “Wipeout.” NBC was third with a 1.9 for more “Celebrity,” Univision fourth with a 1.7 for “Mañana Es para Siempre,” CBS fifth with a 1.6 for a “Criminal Minds” rerun and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a repeat of “Hitched or Ditched.”

At 10 p.m. CBS took the lead with a 1.7 for a repeat of “CSI: NY,” while NBC and ABC tied for second at 1.4, NBC for a repeat of “Law & Order” and ABC for “The Unusuals.” Univision was fourth with a 1.1 for “Don Francisco Presenta.”

Fox also finished first for the night among households with a 5.3 average overnight rating and a 9 share. CBS was second at 4.7/8, ABC third at 4.1/7, NBC fourth at 3.2/6, Univision fifth at 2.0/3 and CW sixth at 0.8/1.
