CBS scares up a
Friday night win

Spooky lineup dominates with a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating

Nov 2, 2009

Appropriately, on Halloween eve, CBS's spooky lineup easily won Friday, with "Ghost Whisperer" the night's top show.

"Whisperer" averaged a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, 43 percent ahead of the No. 2 show in the 8 p.m. timeslot, NBC's "Law & Order," which averaged a 1.4.

In fact, CBS had the night's top-three-rated shows, winning every hour of the night. "Medium," with a special Halloween-themed episode, averaged a 1.8 at 9 p.m., and "Numb3rs" averaged a 1.8 at 10 p.m.

That boosted CBS to a 1.9 rating and 6 share for the night, well ahead of ABC and NBC, which tied for second at 1.4/5. Fox and Univision tied for fourth at 1.2/4, with Fox way up over the previous week's 0.8/3, when the now-yanked "Brothers," "'Til Death" and "Dollhouse" aired. The CW placed sixth with a 0.8/3.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-three percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

At 8 p.m., "Whisperer" led with a 2.0, followed by "L&O" at 1.4. ABC's "Supernanny" was third at 1.3, followed by Univision's "El Nombre del Amor" and CW's "Smallville" tied at 1.2, the latter hitting a season high. Fox's "House" rerun was sixth at 1.1.

At 9 p.m., "Medium" led with a 1.8, followed by "Dateline NBC" at 1.7, Univision's "Sortilegio" at 1.5, Fox's "House" at 1.3, ABC's "Ugly Betty" at 1.2 and CW's "America's Next Top Model" rerun at 0.5.

At 10 p.m., "Numb3rs" led with a 1.8, followed by ABC's "20/20" at 1.6, NBC's "The Jay Leno Show" at 1.2 and Univision at 0.9.

Among households for the night, CBS was well ahead, averaging a 5.0/9, followed by NBC at 4.4/8, ABC at 3.7/7, Fox at 2.4/4, Univision at 1.7/3 and CW at 1.2/2.
