CBS dominates
Tuesday night again

Averages a 4.0 in 18-49s, 29 percent ahead of NBC

Sep 30, 2009

CBS looks like the network to beat on Tuesdays for the rest of the fall. The strong duo of "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" saw little falloff from last week's premieres as CBS finished well ahead of second-place NBC last night.

"NCIS" averaged a 4.6 in adults 18-49 at 8 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, off 4 percent from a series-high 4.8 last week.

The show set another series high among total viewers, bettering last week's 20.6 million by 49,000, and it was the night's top show in 18-49s and total viewers.

CBS was first for the night among 18-49s with a 4.0 average overnight rating and an 11 share, 29 percent ahead of second-place NBC at 3.1/9

"NCIS: LA" averaged a 4.1 18-49 rating, down 7 percent from a 4.4 last week but still winning the timeslot over NBC's "The Biggest Loser," which was up 16 percent from 8 to 10 p.m. compared to last week.

At 10 p.m., where CBS has struggled on Tuesdays for years, new drama "The Good Wife" averaged a 3.1, holding 100 percent of last week's audience and finishing well ahead of ABC and NBC.

It was a disappointing night for ABC. Though "Shark Tank" returned to the schedule after a two-week hiatus with its best rating since Aug. 23, it still only managed a 1.5, tying Univision for fourth in the timeslot.

And new 10 p.m. drama "The Forgotten" averaged a 2.0, down 20 percent from a 2.5 last week. The show may have suffered after getting a smaller lead-in from 9 p.m.'s "Dancing with the Stars," which averaged a 2.6, down from a 3.8 last week.

Meanwhile, for the night, Fox placed third at 2.7/8, ABC fourth at 2.0/6, Univision fifth at 1.7/5 and CW sixth at 1.0/3.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-two percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

Also, due to a preemption in Chicago for a Cubs baseball game, CW numbers for last night may not accurately reflect actual ratings for its shows and will more than likely change when nationals are released.

At 8 p.m. CBS was first with a 4.6 for “NCIS,” followed by NBC with a 3.2 for “Loser.” Fox was third with a 3.1 for “Hell’s Kitchen,” ABC and Univision tied for fourth at 1.5, ABC for “Tank” and Univision for “El Nombre del Amor,” and CW was sixth with a 1.2 for “90210.”

CBS was first again at 9 p.m. with a 4.1 for “NCIS: LA,” while NBC remained second with a 3.9 for more “Loser.” ABC was third with a 2.6 for “Stars,” Fox fourth with a 2.4 for “So You Think You Can Dance,” Univision fifth with a 2.3 for “Mañana Es para Siempre” and CW sixth with a 0.8 for “Melrose Place.”

At 10 p.m. CBS finished first yet again with a 3.1 for “Wife,” with NBC second with a 2.3 for “The Jay Leno Show.” ABC was third with a 2.0 for “Forgotten” and Univision fourth with a 1.3 for “Aqui y Ahora.”

CBS also led the night among households with a 10.7 average overnight rating and a 17 share. ABC was second at 5.6/9, NBC third at 5.2/8, Fox fourth at 3.4/5, Univision fifth at 2.2/4 and CW sixth at 1.4/2.
