CBS Monday
shows see Super Bowl lift

Averages a 4.4 in 18-49s, up 7 percent

Feb 9, 2010

All the promos during Sunday's Super Bowl seemed to pay off for CBS's Monday night lineup. Every show was up over the previous week, and two shows hit season highs.

CBS averaged a 4.4 adults 18-49 rating and an 11 share on the night, according to Nielsen overnights, up 7 percent over last week's 4.1/10.

"The Big Bang Theory" was once again the night's top-rated show, hitting a series-high 6.0 at 9:30 p.m.

Lead-in "Two and a Half Men" notched a season-high 5.7, its best rating in three years, and drew its best average among total viewers, 17.5 million, in at least two years.

CBS's "How I Met Your Mother" (3 percent), "Accidentally on Purpose" (13 percent) and "CSI: Miami" (5 percent) were also up versus the previous week.

The network undoubtedly got a boost from ads hyping its Monday lineup that aired on the Super Bowl, which was seen by a record-breaking crowd of 106.5 million viewers Sunday night.

But the other networks didn't suffer against CBS's stronger lineup. In fact, ABC and Fox were both up compared to the previous week, and NBC was down just 0.1.

For the night, Fox finished second at 4.2/10, ABC third at 3.6/9, NBC fourth at 1.8/5, Univision fifth at 1.5/4 and the CW sixth at 1.0/2.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-four percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

Fox started the night in the lead with a 5.1 at 8 p.m. for “House,” followed by ABC with a 3.8 for “The Bachelor.” CBS was third with a 3.6 for “Mother” (3.8) and “Accidentally” (3.4), NBC fourth with a 2.2 for “Chuck,” Univision fifth with a 1.4 for “Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe” and CW sixth with a 1.1 for “One Tree Hill.”

CBS took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 5.8 for “Men” (5.7) and “Bang” (6.0), while ABC remained second with a 4.4 for more “Bachelor.” Fox was third with a 3.2 for “24,” and NBC placed fourth with a 2.0 for the season finale of “Heroes,” equal to last week. Univision was fifth with a 1.9 for “Sortilegio” and CW sixth with a 0.9 for “Life Unexpected.”

At 10 p.m. CBS was first again with a 3.9 for “CSI: Miami,” with ABC second with a 2.5 for “Castle.” NBC and Univision tied for third at 1.2, NBC for the penultimate episode of “The Jay Leno Show” and Univision for “Cristina.”

CBS also led the night among households with an 8.2 average overnight rating and a 13 share. ABC was second at 7.3/11, Fox third at 6.9/10, NBC fourth at 3.1/5, Univision fifth at 2.0/3 and CW sixth at 1.4/2.
