With “American Idol” shrinking back to two nights this week and vacating the Thursday slot it dominated the past few weeks, Thursday was a rather lackluster night on broadcast last night.
CBS led a rerun-filled evening with a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating and 9 share, according to Nielsen overnights, despite airing just one original show, “Survivor: Micronesia.” The long-running reality program dominated its 8 p.m. slot with a 4.2 rating, rebounding slightly from last week’s season-low 4.0.
The networks have blamed daylight savings for some of the lower ratings in the earlier hours this week, with people staying outside later following the weekend’s clock reset.
ABC’s “Lost” sank to its lowest rating this season, a 4.7, down 13 percent from the previous week’s 5.4. It still bested the closest competition in the 9 p.m. slot by 54 percent.
The CW’s “Reaper,” moving from Tuesday to Thursday nights, turned in an average performance, matching its season-to-date average of 1.1 in the network’s target adults 18-34.
CBS was the only network to see week-to-week improvement for the night, up from a 3.0/8 last week.
ABC finished second on the night behind CBS at 3.0/8, Fox third at 2.9/8, NBC fourth at 2.4/7, Univision fifth at 1.6/4 and CW sixth at 1.4/4.
At 8 p.m. CBS led with a 4.2 for “Survivor,” followed by Fox with a 2.7 for “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” and Univision third with a 2.0 for “Al Diablo con los Guapos.” ABC placed fourth with a 1.8 for a repeat of “Lost” and CW and NBC tied for fifth at 1.6, CW for “Smallville” and NBC for an hour of “My Name is Earl” repeats.
ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 4.8 for “Lost,” while Fox and NBC tied for second at 3.1, Fox for “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” and NBC for “Celebrity Apprentice.” CBS slipped to fourth that hour with a 2.9 for a “CSI” rerun, with Univision fifth with a 1.5 for “Pasion” and CW sixth with a 1.2 for “Reaper.”
At 10 p.m. ABC held onto the lead, albeit barely, with a 2.5 for “Eli Stone,” with NBC and CBS tied for second at 2.4, NBC for “Lipstick Jungle” and CBS for a repeat of “Without a Trace.” Univision was fourth that hour with a 1.2 for “Amas de Casa Desperadas.”
Among households, CBS led the night with a 7.3 average overnight rating and a 12 share. Fox was second at 5.7/9, ABC third at 5.3/9, NBC fourth at 4.1/7, CW fifth at 2.1/3 and Univision sixth at 1.8/3.
