It seems TV viewers have already checked out for the long weekend. Last night CBS's "Big Brother" was the only original show on the Big Four to avoid a week-to-week or year-to-year decline.
ABC's "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock" averaged a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating from 8 to 11 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, down 15 percent from last year's festival, which aired on Monday rather than Wednesday.
It was hardly the only show to see declines. NBC's "America's Got Talent" slid to a season-low 2.5 rating at 9 p.m., off 7 percent from last week, despite naming the last five finalists. Lead-in "Minute To Win It" dropped 11 percent from last week.
Fox's "MasterChef" averaged a 2.0 rating from 8 to 10 p.m., falling 9 percent from last week's 2.2.
CBS's "Brother" was the only show to avoid the curse. It matched last week's season-high 2.8 rating.
CBS and Fox tied for first for the night among 18-49s, each with a 2.0 average overnight rating and a 6 share. NBC was third at 1.9/6, ABC and Univision tied for fourth at 1.7/5 and the CW was sixth at 0.4/1.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-seven percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. CBS was first with a 2.8 for "Brother," with Fox and Univision tied for second at 1.8, Fox for "MasterChef" and Univision for "Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe." NBC was fourth with a 1.7 for "Minute," ABC fifth with a 1.6 for "CMA," and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a repeat of "America's Next Top Model."
NBC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 2.5 for "Talent," followed by Fox with a 2.1 for more "MasterChef." Univision was third with a 1.9 for "Soy Tu Dueña," ABC fourth with a 1.8 for more "CMA," CBS fifth with a 1.7 for a repeat of "Criminal Minds" and CW sixth with a 0.4 for "Plain Jane."
At 10 p.m. ABC was first with a 1.6 for another hour of "CMA," while CBS and NBC tied for second at 1.4, CBS for a repeat of "CSI: NY" and NBC for a "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" rerun. Univision was fourth that hour with a 1.2 for "Don Francisco Presenta."
NBC led the night among households with a 4.7 average overnight rating and an 8 share. CBS was second at 4.3/7, ABC third at 3.7/6, Fox fourth at 2.9/5, Univision fifth at 2.1/4 and CW sixth at 0.8/1.
