A weak start for
Fox's 'Do Not Disturb'

The new sitcom averages a 2.0 in adults 18-49

Sep 11, 2008

Fox’s new sitcom “Do Not Disturb” got off to a slow start Wednesday night, losing a chunk of its “’Til Death” lead-in and dragging down the network’s nightly average.

“Disturb” averaged a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating at 9:30 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, off 17 percent from “Death’s” 2.4 for its third-season premiere at 9 p.m.

“Disturb” tied for second in the timeslot with a rerun of CBS’s “Criminal Minds,” despite facing minimal competition. NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” was the only other new show on the Big Five that hour.

The new sitcom, about a group of wacky hotel employees, had received poor reviews, though it also faced a bit of a challenge in debuting in early September, two weeks before broadcast TV viewership perks back up with the official start to the season.

“Disturb” pulled down Fox’s average on the night, after a solid performance for the second episode of “Bones.” It slipped 6 percent from last week’s premiere, from a 3.1 to a 2.9, in the 8 p.m. timeslot.

NBC finished first for the night among 18-49s with a 2.6 average overnight rating and a 7 share. Fox was second at 2.5/7, followed by Univision third at 1.8/5, CBS fourth at 1.7/5, and ABC and CW tied for fifth at 1.6/4.

Fox began the night in the lead with a 2.9 at 8 p.m. for “Bones,” followed by NBC with a 2.5 for the first hour of “America’s Got Talent.” Univision and CW tied for third at 2.0, Univision for “Al Diablo con los Guapos” and CW for “America’s Next Top Model,” with CBS fifth with a 1.6 for “Greatest American Dog” and ABC sixth with a 1.4 for a repeat of “Wife Swap.”

At 9 p.m. NBC took the lead with a 3.2 for another hour of “Talent,” while Fox slipped to second with a 2.2 average for “Death” (2.4) and “Disturb” (2.0). Univision and CBS tied for third at 1.8, Univision for “Fuego en la Sangre” and CBS for a repeat of “Criminal Minds,” with ABC and CW tied for fifth at 1.2, ABC for a repeat of “Supernanny” and CW for a “90210” rerun.

NBC led again at 10 p.m. with a 2.1 for a repeat of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” with ABC second with a 2.0 for “20/20: They’re Not Like Us.” CBS was third with a 1.7 for a repeat of “CSI: NY” and Univision fourth with a 1.5 for “Don Francisco Presenta.”

Among households, NBC finished first for the night with a 6.5 average overnight rating and an 11 share. CBS was second at 4.8/8, Fox third at 4.7/8, ABC fourth at 3.1/5, Univision fifth at 2.3/4 and CW sixth at 2.1/3.
