A ho-hum return
for 'Deal Or No Deal'

NBC game show averages a 2.8 in adults 18-49

Aug 26, 2008

The Olympics are done but NBC is still winning in primetime, albeit by a much smaller margin. The network took Monday night among adults 18-49 by winning all three hours with solid, though not strong, numbers.

The season premiere of “Deal or No Deal” kicked off at 8 p.m. with a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights. That’s off 18 percent from the show’s 3.4 season average last year, though some declines were certainly expected. The new season doesn’t officially begin for nearly a month.

Still, “Deal” handily won its hour and was NBC’s top show on the night.

“America’s Toughest Jobs,” the newly launched reality show leading out of “Deal,” averaged a 2.6, holding a decent 93 percent of its lead-out and winning its 9 p.m. timeslot.

With some momentum entering the final hour, NBC far outdistanced the other networks in its Democratic National Convention coverage, averaging a 1.5 to CBS’s 0.9 and ABC’s 0.8.

As a reminder, the DNC coverage was live, and thus fast nationals may be inaccurate, since they are not time zone adjusted. Nielsen will release updated ratings this afternoon.

NBC finished first for the night among viewers 18-49 with a 2.3 average overnight rating and a 6 share. Univision was second at 1.9/5, CBS third at 1.8/5, Fox fourth at 1.6/5, ABC fifth at 0.8/2 and CW sixth at 0.7/2.

At 8 p.m. NBC was first with a 2.8 for “Deal,” followed by Univision with a 2.1 for “Al Diablo con los Guapos.” CBS was third with a 2.0 for repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” and “How I Met Your Mother,” Fox fourth with a 1.3 for a “Prison Break” rerun, ABC fifth with a 0.7 for “High School Musical: Get in the Picture” and CW sixth with a 0.6 for a repeat of “Gossip Girl.”

NBC led again at 9 p.m. with a 2.6 for “Jobs,” while CBS moved to second with a 2.5 for repeats of “Two and a Half Men” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” Univision was third that hour with a 2.1 for “Fuego en la Sangre,” Fox fourth with a 1.6 for another hour of “Prison Break” and ABC and CW tied for fifth at 0.7, ABC for repeats of “Samantha Who?” and CW for a “One Tree Hill” rerun.

At 10 p.m. NBC and Univision tied for the lead at 1.5, NBC for its coverage of the Democratic National Convention and Univision for “Cristina.” CBS followed with a 0.9 and ABC with a 0.8, each for DNC coverage.

NBC also finished first for the night among households with a 5.1 average overnight rating and an 8 share. CBS was second at 3.7/6, Fox third at 3.0/5, Univision fourth at 2.4/4, ABC fifth at 2.0/3 and CW sixth at 1.2/2.
