With the Los Angeles Lakers on the brink of winning their first NBA title in six years, ABC saw numbers for Game 4 of the finals rise last night compared to Game 3.

The network averaged a 4.8 adults 18-49 rating from 9 to 11 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, up 14 percent from a 4.2 on Tuesday night.

As a reminder, ratings for live sporting events are approximate as fast nationals measure timeslot and not actual program data. They also do not include accurate West Coast viewing or post-primetime viewing in the East, where the game went past 11 p.m. Final numbers will be out later today.

Still, even if final numbers change significantly, ABC will easily be the night’s top network. It averaged a 4.4 rating and 13 share last night, nearly doubling the No. 2 broadcaster, Fox, at a 2.4/7.

The game, which the Lakers won to give them a 3-1 series lead over the Orlando Magic, peaked at 10 p.m. with a 4.8 rating. Game 5 airs Sunday.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-one percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

With ABC and Fox well ahead of the rest for the night, CBS and Univision tied for third at 1.6/5, NBC was fifth at 1.5/4 and the CW was sixth at 0.5/1.

At 8 p.m. ABC led with a 3.6 for “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (3.2) and “NBA Countdown” (4.0), followed by NBC with a 1.8 for “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.” Fox was third with a 1.6 for a repeat of “Bones,” Univision fourth with a 1.4 for “Cuidado con el Angel,” CBS fifth with a 1.3 for an hour of repeats of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a “Smallville” rerun.

ABC was first again at 9 p.m. with a 4.8 for basketball, while Fox moved to second with a 3.2 for “So You Think You Can Dance.” Univision was third with a 1.9 for “Mañana Es para Siempre,” CBS fourth with a 1.7 for “CSI,” NBC fifth with a 1.4 for repeats of “The Office” and “30 Rock” and CW sixth with a 0.5 for a repeat of “Supernatural.”

At 10 p.m. ABC led again with a 4.8 for more basketball, with CBS second with a 1.7 for a repeat of “The Mentalist.” Univision was third with a 1.5 for “Mujeres Asesinas” and NBC fourth with a 1.3 for “The Listener.”

ABC also finished first for the night among households with a 6.8 average overnight rating and a 12 share. CBS was second at 5.1/9, Fox third at 4.5/8, NBC fourth at 2.8/5, Univision fifth at 2.0/3 and CW sixth at 0.9/2.
