ABC's 'V' takes
another ratings spill

Averages a 3.1 in 18-49s, off 16 percent from last week

For the second straight week, ABC's "V" tumbled, falling to third place in a timeslot it dominated in its premiere two weeks ago.

"V" averaged a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, off 16 percent from a 3.7 last week. It dipped 26 percent in its second outing last week, from a 5.0 overnight for its premiere.

The show slid to third in its timeslot, behind CBS's "NCIS" and NBC's "Merry Madagascar" and the first half hour of "The Biggest Loser."

"V" likely debuted big due to all the hype surrounding the launch of the show, a reboot of a 1980s miniseries about mysterious aliens who come to Earth. There's a chance some viewers are now time-shifting the show, as sci fi programs tend to have huge DVR up ticks, but the ratings decline is still troublesome for a show with a limited run this fall.

After four episodes, "V" will return next spring with new episodes.

Also last night, Heather Locklear's return to "Melrose Place" lifted the CW series to its best numbers since early October, though it was still a distant sixth in its timeslot. The show averaged a 1.6 among women 18-34, up 33 percent over last week, and 1.54 million viewers, 20 percent better than last week.

CBS led the night among 18-49s with a 3.4 average overnight rating and a 9 share. NBC was second at 3.0/8, ABC third at 2.7/7, Fox fourth at 2.4/7, Univision fifth at 1.5/4 and CW sixth at 0.9/3.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-three percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

At 8 p.m. CBS was first with a 4.1 for “NCIS,” followed by NBC with a 3.3 for "Madagascar" and “Loser.” ABC was third with a 3.1 for “V,” Fox fourth with a 2.5 for “So You Think You Can Dance,” Univision fifth with a 1.4 for “El Nombre del Amor” and CW sixth with a 1.1 for “90210.”

NBC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 3.7 for more “Loser,” while CBS slid to second with a 3.4 for “NCIS: Los Angeles.” ABC was third with a 3.2 for the penultimate results edition of “Dancing with the Stars,” Fox fourth with a 2.3 for more “Dance,” Univision fifth with a 1.8 for “Sortilegio” and CW sixth with a 0.8 for “Place.”

CBS regained the lead at 10 p.m. with a 2.6 for “The Good Wife,” with NBC second with a 2.0 for “The Jay Leno Show.” ABC was third with a 1.9 for “The Forgotten” and Univision fourth with a 1.2 for “Aqui y Ahora.”

CBS also led the night among households with a 10.0 average overnight rating and a 16 share. ABC was second at 7.0/11, NBC third at 4.8/8, Fox fourth at 3.8/6, Univision fifth at 2.0/3 and CW sixth at 1.3/2.
