The new TV season doesn't officially begin until next week, but last night three shows premiered early, including one new program.

The CW's much-anticipated new drama "Ringer," starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as a pair of troubled twins, got off to a solid start, building on its low-rated lead-in in virtually every demo.

"Ringer" averaged a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, up 50 percent over its lead-in, the season premiere of "90210."

"Ringer" drew a 1.1 in 18-34s, building on "90210" by 0.2, and a 1.6 in women 18-34, 23 percent better than "90210." Of note, though, that was well below what "Melrose Place," the last big-buzz show for the CW, bowed to two years ago.

"Ringer," which the CW hopes will widen its audience beyond women 18-34, became the CW's most-watched program in the Tuesday 9 p.m. timeslot since "90210" bowed three years ago, drawing 2.74 million total viewers.

That lifted the CW to its most-watched Tuesday night in two years (2.18 million viewers) as well as its best among women 18-34 (1.4) since November 2009.

Meanwhile, NBC had the night's highest-rated show with the penultimate episode of "America's Got Talent," leading into tonight's finale.

"Talent" averaged a 3.6 18-49 rating at 9 p.m., marking an eight-week high in the demo.

Lead-out "Parenthood" lost 36 percent of that audience at 10 p.m., averaging a 2.3 for its third-season premiere, up slightly over last year's season average of 2.1 but down from the second-season premiere, which averaged a 2.7.

NBC was first for the night among 18-49s with a 2.4 average overnight rating and a 7 share. Univision was second at 1.8/5, ABC third at 1.7/5, CBS fourth at 1.6/5, CW fifth at 1.0/3, Fox sixth at 0.9/3 and Telemundo seventh at 0.4/1.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Forty-one percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

At 8 p.m. ABC and Univision tied for first at 2.0, ABC for "Wipeout" and Univision for "Teresa." CBS was third with a 1.7 for a repeat of "NCIS," NBC fourth with a 1.1 for "It's Worth What?," Fox fifth with a 1.0 for a "Glee" rerun, CW sixth with a 0.8 for "90210" and Telemundo seventh with a 0.4 for "Mi Corazon Insiste."

NBC moved to first at 9 p.m. with a 3.6 for "Talent," with Univision second with a 2.2 for "La Fuerza del Destino." ABC and CBS tied for third at 1.6, ABC for "Jacqueline Kennedy: In Her Own Words" and CBS for a repeat of "NCIS: Los Angeles," with CW fifth with a 1.2 for "Ringer," Fox sixth with a 0.8 for repeats of "Raising Hope" and Telemundo seventh with a 0.4 for "Flor Salvaje."

At 10 p.m. NBC led again with a 2.3 for "Parenthood," with CBS second with a 1.7 for another "NCIS: LA" rerun. ABC was third with a 1.5 for more of its Kennedy special, Univision fourth with a 1.3 for "Aqui y Ahora" and Telemundo fifth with a 0.6 for "La Casa de al Lado."

CBS led the night among households with a 5.8 average overnight rating and a 9 share. ABC was second at 5.2/8, NBC third at 5.1/8, Univision fourth at 1.8/5, Fox fifth at 1.5/2, CW sixth at 1.4/2 and Telemundo seventh at 0.7/1.
