The big question for folks looking to buy a cargo van is, just how much can it carry?
The question facing makers of cargo vans is, how do we answer that question in a dramatic way, beyond things such as square footage?
An agency in South Africa came up with what may be the cleverest way so far.
It's a sun visor of the sort people put up in their in their windshields in hot climates to keep the sun from heating up their vehicles' interiors.
Created for Nissan's Interstar, the visor is a picture of the interior of a warehouse.
“The little truck’s all about space and stuff, kind of a warehouse on wheels,” says Adam Weber, creative director at TBWA in Johannesburg. A team at the agency was in a brainstorming session, and from that the idea of the warehouse visor popped out.
The picture, though certainly an exaggeration, makes the point: This van has a huge capacity to carry stuff.
The visor's now being tested at a local dealership in Johannesburg.
“It looks better when it’s on the vehicle at the dealership, kind of a nice point-of-sale piece,” Weber says.
The agency came up with three different designs using varying images of warehouses, and each reads “Nissan Interstar: Carries More.”
Weber says the visors haven’t rolled out nationally or internationally yet, but that he hopes they will soon. Nissan’s Interstar is a commercial van available overseas but not here in the U.S.
