Add two to the
crew of CBS's 'NCIS'

Lauren Holly joins as Mark Harmon's sexy ex

You wouldn't think CBS's "NCIS" has much in common with the likes of Fox's "The O.C." or NBC's "Scrubs," but the three shows do share one common bond -- those three, along with CBS's "Still Standing" and "60 Minutes" and NBC's "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," all tied for No. 60 among viewers 18-49 last season with a 3.1 average rating.
"NCIS" did fare better among total viewers last year, finishing No. 22 while averaging 13.57 million, but CBS still thought the show could use a little freshening up for its third season, which starts tonight at 8 p.m.
For that the network chose one of the oldest gimmicks in the book, a potential love interest for its main character, in this case actress Lauren Holly for lead Mark Harmon. She plays the new director of the NCIS and, fortunately or unfortunately for Harmon, a former flame with whom he still has sparks.
Tonight's episode, which also features the addition of Cote de Pablo, has Harmon's Leroy Gibbs obsessing with the fact that the bullet that killed Kate last season was intended for him.
"NCIS" performed quite well in reruns over the summer, especially among 18-49s, which could mean the series would have gotten a boost even without Holly. But surely there are some "Picket Fences" fans who will tune in just to see her.
