Leaner 'Rock Star'
is still a stumbler

CBS reality show loses 24 percent of 'Men' lead-in

It was a gamble for CBS to schedule an unproven reality show on three nights a week, and now the network is paying. It shaved “Rock Star” from 60 supersized minutes last week to a half hour last night, and based on last night’s ratings that was a good decision.
“Rock Star” averaged a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, fumbling a quarter of its 3.3 “Two and a Half Men” lead-in. “Rock Star” was about even to last week’s 2.4 premiere rating, though that was over an entire hour.
The network had hoped that “Rock Star” would be at least the next “Big Brother,” which also airs on three nights. But after it fell to a 2.1 rating for last Wednesday’s elimination episode, CBS knew things were grim.
“Rock Star” finished second in its timeslot last night, 26 percent behind timeslot leader “Hell’s Kitchen” on Fox. That averaged a 3.4 at 9:30.
CBS has moved "Rock Star" to 9 p.m. on Wednesday from 9:30 in hopes of boosting the show. "King of Queens" will now air at 9:30.

CBS led the night among 18-49s with a 2.8 average rating and an 8 share. Fox was second at 2.6/8, NBC third at 2.0/6, ABC fourth at 1.7/5, UPN fifth at 0.9/3 and the WB sixth at 0.8/2.
CBS started the night in the lead with a 2.7 average rating during the 8 p.m. hour for repeats of “The King of Queens” (2.6) and “Everybody Loves Raymond” (2.8). Fox was second with a 2.0 for a repeat of “Nanny 911” and NBC third with a 1.9 for a “Fear Factor” rerun.
Fox took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 3.2 average for “Hell’s Kitchen,” the night’s top-rated show in the demo. CBS was second with a 2.9 for a repeat of “Two and a Half Men” (3.3) and “Rock Star” (2.5), followed by a 2.1 for NBC for a repeat of “Las Vegas.”
CBS regained the lead during the 10 p.m. hour with a 2.9 average for a repeat of “CSI: Miami.” ABC and NBC tied for second that hour, each with a 2.1 rating, ABC for the last hour of the movie “28 Days” and NBC for a repeat of “Medium.”
Among households, CBS led the night as well, with a 5.6 average rating and a 9 share. NBC and Fox tied for second at 3.9/7, ABC was fourth at 3.6/6, UPN fifth at 1.6/3 and the WB sixth at 1.4/2.
